Affirmed Housing - Zephyr
G|M Business Interiors partnered with Affirmed Housing to provide furnishings for an affordable housing complex, which provides 85 studio apartments for homeless veterans.
Located at 4380 Alvarado Canyon Road in San Diego, the project transformed a former Motel 6 into a modern apartment community for 84 extremely low income and homeless veterans. Zephyr responds to two important regional initiatives: The San Diego Housing Commission (SDHC)'s Housing First – SDHC's Homelessness Action Plan, and the Mayor's Housing Our Heroes – The 1,000 Homeless Veterans Initiative. The development, which has already positively impacted the neighborhood and environment, provides a comprehensive approach to ending homelessness with on-site social services and ample amenities.
In addition to new building systems and enhancements for aesthetics, accessibility, and sustainability, the unit interiors received updated bathrooms and new flooring, walls, and kitchenettes. Residents also get to enjoy a shared TV lounge, computer room, full kitchen, community room, and garden. The community room includes game tables, a shuffleboard, and more amenities for residents to enjoy.
Social services and case management services are provided on-site for residents by PATH (People Assisting the Homeless). The space was inspired by a moody monochrome cigar bar lounge and features Herman Miller, Geiger, HAY, OFS, Arcadia, Hightower, Dickson, and other products.
